The first Norwegian-made livestock transport body for semi-trailers has been developed in collaboration with Hydal Transportsystemer AS (Hytrans), T. N. Vangs Mekaniske Verksted AS and the end user Fatland AS.

The collaboration has resulted in a finished product that can carry more than 40 cattle across two levels. Compared with today’s standard, where approximately 26 animals can be transported in total, this is a major improvement and enables even more efficient transport. The height in each level is 1.57 metres.

MCE Managing Director Eldar Tranøy is pleased with the result and proudly presents the solution that has been developed:

– What is unique about this product is the ability to transport cattle on two levels. Normally, cattle are transported on only one level, where you typically have cattle on the first level and the option for smaller livestock on the second.

For MCE, the trailer floor profile was a key factor. A smart solution was needed to reduce the floor height to create more space. Hytrans, which supplies aluminium profiles to both the transport and offshore industries, was tasked with developing a completely new type of floor profile that was safer, more cost-effective and solved the space challenge effectively.

– There are height limitations you must account for when producing livestock bodies like this. The animals must have a minimum headroom during transport to ensure they stand safely and have sufficient space, Tranøy explains.

A completely new floor solution has been developed by Hytrans in collaboration with MCE.

The specially designed aluminium floor plank withstands high loads and has grooves that provide better grip and stability for the animals, resulting in safer transport. Tranøy explains that this was especially important during development of the new semi-trailer:

– With the floor profile from Hytrans, we achieved our goal. The finished product delivers strong value for both driver and owner: more animals can be transported, maintenance becomes easier, and the animals are transported more safely and efficiently.

Hytrans Sales Engineer Andre Grindhaug is also pleased with the outcome and points to a strong collaboration between the two Norwegian companies:

– It has been a good process, as it always is when Hytrans and MCE collaborate, and we are confident that we have delivered a product that performs and solves the challenges of both MCE and the end customer. This is a unique solution we are proud of, and a strong example of how we can adapt our profile systems to the customer’s exact requirements.

The livestock body was developed in collaboration with MCE, Hytrans, Fatland and T.N. Vangs Mek. Verksted.

In addition to the floor profile, Hytrans supplied all aluminium profiles used in the development of this new Norwegian-made livestock transport body. With the profiles in place, the semi-trailer is ready for operation, and MCE Managing Director Eldar Tranøy is enthusiastic about the collaboration:

– It is truly unique. It is close to 100% Norwegian-made and provides major benefits for both driver and owner. Partnerships like this contribute to increased local and national value creation.
